Building and Programming Robots: Part 6

The Robot Challenge: Part 6 --

My kids and I decided to learn how to build and program robots this summer.

None of that virtual stuff for the 13 year old. She wants to build a living, breathing robot that moves through real, not cyberspace. And, since dealing with the physical world is an interesting thing for kids to learn to do, I did not object.

Next Steps

We decided that we want to build a launcher for the Flying Lion when we learn how to programmatically control our robots. But we don't want to forget our ideas. And, we will have to take the Flying Lion apart to do the next constructions.

We decided to dedicate a notebook for documenting our work. We just happened to have a journal book around. One with a fuzzy cover.

Each time we do a lesson, we will write:

  1. The date
  2. Who did the work
  3. The name of each contraption we build
  4. Comments on what we did and what worked and did not work
  5. Ideas for changes we would like to make (if any) or additional things we want to do with this contraption.

We got out our sticky-pic camera and took some really terrible photos of our contraptions and scotch taped them in the book.

Tune in next time, for: ...

Well, we got distracted. But we're planning more robotic adventures in the near future!

Meantime, here's some cool robot news
